Up until April 2004, this committee was previously called the Scrutiny Committee, and committee minutes and agendas from this time period can still be found in the Archived Committees section.

 

From May 2005, this committee has been renamed the Scrutiny Committee.

 

Its primary function has been to hold the Cabinet to account, by having the right to call-in, for reconsideration, decisions made but not implemented by the Cabinet.  This enabled the Committee to consider whether the decision was appropriate.  It could recommend that the Cabinet reconsiders the decision or even propose an alternative for the Cabinet / Council to consider.
