Local Authorities and partner agencies and organisations from around the Country were in Shropshire yesterday (Thursday 16th November) to learn how Shrewsbury and Atcham Borough Council is delivering real benefits to hard to reach groups through culture and sport.
SABC hosted a Beacon Open Day at the Shrewsbury Sports Village, in Sundorne.
Borough council managers, officers and representatives from partners in the business community spoke to an audience that included delegates from London Boroughs.
Shrewsbury and Atcham Borough Council is one of eight Local Authorities from across the country to be awarded Beacon Status for Culture and Sport for Hard to Reach Groups. The adjudicators described Shrewsbury and Atcham Borough Council's application for Beacon status as 'excellent'.
Shrewsbury Sports Village and the proposed New Entertainment Venue and the museum Young Curators scheme were just three of the projects that showed the commitment of the authority to deliver services to the Hard to Reach Groups identified by the category.
Robin Hooper, Chief Executive of Shrewsbury & Atcham Borough Council said:
"This award reflects years of hard and dedicated work by many Members and officers across the Council. This is also a reflection of the work and support given by many members of the public and stakeholders that have worked together to get this acknowledgement."

The event was an opportunity for the Council to share the following:

- Practical advice and tips
- Extensive networking opportunities
- Provide useful reference material and
- Further learning and sharing information
