Website rated in top 12 UK District Council websites

Release Date: 2 April 2004
SOCITM Better Connected 2004

SOCITM (the Society of IT Managers) conducted a survey of all local government websites in the UK, this took place at the end of 2003.
The results have recently been released and Shrewsbury and Atcham Borough Council's website www.shrewsbury.gov.uk has been rated very highly.

After being rated 'P' for two years, our grade has jumped forward to 'C+'. (see note below)

The Better Connected report lists Shrewsbury and Atcham in the top 12 shire districts, out of 238.

Shrewsbury and Atcham Borough Council is one of 7 that the SOCITM report highlights out of the 467 in the UK that have made an outstanding improvement, the report says:
"If a local authority has the will to improve and makes good use of surveys such as this, which help in the discovery of best practice, it is quite feasible to make this level of improvement."
We are delighted with this result, a lot of staff throughout the Council have worked very hard to bring about this massive improvement.

Our plans now are directed towards making the last jump to a Transactional website. For this we must continue to develop our information content.
However, by definition, a transactional site requires our customers to be able to interact with with us through the website. We are developing an increased range of services including: bookings, online payments and Business Rates online.

Notes:

The are 4 grades which can be awarded:
P - Promotional - basic level of information
C - Content - substantial level information and some services online
C+ - Content Plus - comprehensive level of information, with a number of online services and good level of topical and interactive content.
T - Transactional - the top grade - thorough information and a wide range of online services and interactive content - only 23 councils are at this level

The full report is available to SOCITM subscribers, or can be purchased from SOCITM (www.socitm.gov.uk).
