UK carers missing out on £660m
Release Date:
08 December 2003
Around 300,000 carers may be missing out on benefits because they do not realise they are entitled to payments, according to a new report.
The charity Carers UK estimates that up to £660m is going unclaimed every year.
It says many people do not view themselves as carers, especially those looking after friends or relatives.
Over two million people become carers every year and they are entitled to an allowance whatever the relationship, the charity says.
