Museums Service/Music Hall and Heritage Working Group

Release Date: 14/12/04
Consideration was given to a report of the Director of Community Services at Cabinet on 13th December 2004.

Decision:
  1. That the principle of relocating the museums service currently based at Rowley's House Museum and Art Gallery to the Music Hall and the developing of an integrated Visitor Attraction at the Music Hall be agreed.
  2. That the Director of Development Services be requested to prepare a development brief for Rowley's House and adjoining car parks that reflected the opportunities presented through the West End Transport Assessment.
  3. That the capital generated by the sale of the above, together with the monies already secured from the sale of Clive House Museum, be "ring fenced" to enhance an agreed visitor attraction at the Music Hall on its closure as a performing venue and relocation to the New Entertainment Venue.
  4. That the Director of Community Services be requested to report to the next meeting of Cabinet on the possible time scale of the above developments via a Critical Path Analysis on the basis of which the short term operation of the current museums service could be determined.
  5. That the Portfolio Holder for Museums and the relevant officer continue discussions with interested parties in the meantime through the recently established Working Group.
The decision may be subject to scrutiny by the Call-In Committee.
