Park & Ride Pennies Provide Comic Relief

Release Date: 17 March 2005

March 11th, Red Nose Day saw passengers on Shrewsbury’s Park & Ride buses travelling for the bargain fare of one penny instead of the regular fare of £1 for over 16’s.

In return, they were asked to donate a small sum to Comic Relief. The result was an impressive total of £1,469.74p.

The slogan for the day was "Use Park & Ride for a penny- U nose it makes sense".

The service is jointly run by Shrewsbury & Atcham Borough Council, Shropshire County Council and Arriva Midlands Limited.

Councillor David Roberts was pleased with the public’s response:

"We hope that all our passengers on the day, old and new, appreciated the one-off bargain fare but more importantly, I would like to thank all who donated money and helped support the vital work of Comic Relief".
